putting my phone down…

Our kids need us. They don’t want to see the tops of our heads any more. This was made so incredibly apparent at Lili’s gymnastics camp today.

While being away at BlogHer for 5 day (yes…..5 days away from my little ladies and my man!!!), I thought during her camp would be a good time to try and catch up on emails. Not today.

Every time she did something, she glanced my way to make sure I saw her. Made my heart melt. And me being that “don’t care what others think mom”, stood right up and waved back to make sure she saw that I WAS seeing her.

No more top of head to my kids.
No more, “hold on a sec…”
No more I’ll be there in a minute”, and that minute is an hour later.

It’s time for more eye contact.

It’s time for more me being proactive.

It’s time for more “cool mom”!

It’s time for the emails to continue to wait. And if I miss opportunities, I am ok with that. My children are and have always been #1 to me. It pains me to think of the little things I may have missed while “getting the important things done”. Ugh.

It’s hard since we do live in such a technology focused world. But really, it’s a simple choice. Kids grow TOO fast.

Today is a new day. No regrets. Living life to the fullest, always! 🙂

What little changes have you made to make sure you are involved in very thing your kids do and put technology to the side?

  1. Powerful 🙂

Emails are silent coming in because when I hear stuff go off I just want to check it off my list and check it. I try to do as much as I can at naptime and bedtime. I’m getting better at only answering quick stuff while they are up and playing – I will admit I’m a bathroom emailer/texter – Ha Ha! I mark stuff as unopened if it will involve more thought to get back to.

  2. VERY POWERFUL!! LOVE THIS.

    I too Renee am a bathroom emailer/texter.

I will definitely take this one and put the phone down….It can wait….It’s summer my kids need me and not the top of my head. Thanks for pushing me into it Shannon…I knew it was there but just ignored it…
