What kid doesn’t like recess? I remember just LOVING it! Kickball, monkey bars, swings. And of course, chasing the boys around on the playground. It was my favorite part of the day! We got to pretty much run around and do what we wanted! My other favorite part of school was gym. Yah, I know, not very educationally minded at that point. It actually never really changed because I always loved sports – even through my year rounds sports in high school to my college days of playing club volleyball.
I hope our kids follow in our footsteps and love sports as much as my husband and I do. So when my oldest daughter started school, I wondered what exactly her schedule would be like. I have heard so many stories of how gym and recess are being cut back and more focus is being put on schooling. Not that that is wrong, but hello childhood obesity! I was thrilled to learn that at my daughter’s school they get two sessions of recess as well as a gym class every day that she goes.
Government and public health agencies recommend children engage in at least 60 minutes of mild to strenuous activity daily. Schools nationwide have had to cut recess time due to limited resources, and some schools do not provide any playtime for students at all. In the past twenty years children have lost an average of 8 hours of recess a week. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the lack of playtime has become a national crisis leading to a growing epidemic: childhood obesity.
We recently purchased the Danimals Coolision product. The girls just loved it! And what I love is the NO high fructose corn syrup, NOartificial colors or flavors AND it’s a good source of calcium! It’s quite hard to find yogurt that has no high fructose corn syrup, so this is another thing that makes me happy about this product – well and the fact the kids love it!
Recently Dannon Danimals launched Rally for Recess. To sum it up, 5 schools can win new playground equipment worth $20,000 by having codes entered from Danimals products. Simple!
If you want your school to win, here is what you have to do. Any product that you purchase from the Dannon Danimals line has a code on the box. Enter the code at Rally for Recess and the schools with the most codes (in each of the five categories) wins. This is live through February 8, 2012. You can read more on the rules HERE.
I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Danimals and received a gift card to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
