For those that didn’t know, I had surgery. Here is a quick recap. I had foot and calf surgery on September 30th. It wasn’t necessarily a planned event, although we weren’t surprised it was recommended. I have had severe pain in my right foot for close to three years now. I have tried everything from manipulations, to cortizone shots to chiropractics. The procedures would work, but only for a short time. So…When I went in to the doc on September 21st, he scheduled me for surgery on the 30th. It was very fast…but we took it! What I had was a Morton’s neuroma…so they removed that. The way I understand it was they took a nerve out of my foot because a “ball” had been created in it and it was being pressed between my toes making it painful with every step. Second they took a tendon out of my calf. The reason for this is to relieve some of the pressure on my foot by letting my foot extend more. At least, that is how I understand it 🙂
So…I had to wear this lovely boot for two weeks. The second picture is Mike’s attempt at wrapping my foot with a blanket and ice underneath. I was not allowed to take the boot off for two weeks, so we got creative.
The boot came off two weeks later. I went in to the doc to get the staples and stitches out. Thankfully my friend Sarah came too because I got so queezy seeing all that I almost passed out. She was my chauffeur and then my kid watcher at that point. (Oh ya…I couldn’t drive for the two weeks I had that cast on too…that was torture! Those who know me know I need to get out!) 🙂 Once the boot got off I had a rude awakening coming. I couldn’t believe how quickly I lost muscle in not only my calf but my thigh too. It was unbelievable. I only had the walking cast on for two weeks, so I can’t imagine what happens when people have to have full casts on for any longer than that. It was crazy! Here are a couple pics of what it looked like the night I got my cast off (two weeks after surgery).
I am finally starting to get around without a limp….yay!! Today was the first day the swelling has gone down too. Things are looking much better. I’m very thankful I did the surgery when I did and there wasn’t hardly any pain (Praise the Lord for that!) He was definitely with me through it all. Thanks for all the prayer too!

WOW!!
Well glad you are recovering "on schedule" though the process has been hard. I am soo amazed you haven't had any pain…. that is a huge blessing. Oh, and that you have amily/friends helping you!!
Ya…I def do feel blessed….even more through this whole situation 🙂
hoping for a speedy recovery. I wish I had seen your blog sooner… I would have told you about Foot Solutions, did you try them? They deal with that stuff all the time.
My friend went there with the same kind of pain and they fitted her for arch supports and gave her a metatarsal pad to support her foot, and it helped relieve her pain. Though if yours was unbearable I'm guessing a doctor is a great place to go! get well soon!
