What to do with all the candy CRAP!

It never fails.  Every year there is TOO much candy.  Just too much!  We really try to not allow the kiddos to eat a lot of junk food.  But, inevitably they get some.  I mean, they are kids.  Let them be kids! Right?

Well, Halloween is super fun because my adorable kids get to dress up in their adorable outfits.  We run around like wild indians from house to house and collect the garb.  Fun, right?

Not so much in a house that doesn’t like to consume a lot of candy.  If it’s there, we will eat it.

I happened upon an article this morning and I think it i just awesome.  I have always wanted to “donate” or send our candy somewhere.  For two reasons really.  We don’t need it.  Second, if it would make someone else’s day, I’d prefer they have it.  Three…ok, there are three.  It would b ea good lesson to teach the kids.  Helping others out…even if it is JUST candy.

You can read the original article HERE from Mamapedia. But here are the things that I will be doing with my candy this year that we receive…

1.  Share it. Take your leftover candy to the office. Even if your co-workers who are parents are sick of the stuff, chances are your younger colleagues will relish childhood memories as they reach for another Mary Jane or Butterfinger.

2.  Or better yet, fill a coffee can with candy and bring it to your local nursing home, homeless shelter or a charity for the staff to enjoy. Add a note that says, “Thanks for all the good work you do.” I’ll most likely be doing this – we have a Veteran’s Home here in Grand Rapids and my grandfather still goes there for services – he is a World War II vet.

And this is from the “comments” section below the article. I don’t know the validity of this, however I am reposting in case they tickle anyone’s fancy and you want to check it out.

1. USA wide DENTISTS will pay $1/pound of uneaten & unopened Halloween Candy, go to www.halloweencandybuyback.com place in your zip code & find a Local participating DENTIST. They Donate the candy to Operation Gratitude or Operation Shoebox, who send the candy overseas to the TROOPS. So get some Cash for your Stash, so Treats go to the Troops.

But to note, all these are fabulous ideas.  However, if I lose all motivation in this department, I will become one of the many who will be sending our candy to the CANDY FAIRY! 😉

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!  Don’t gorge too much!! 😉
